Every income entry, expense, and transfer gets logged against a payment method, so account balances stay accurate without a separate reconciliation pass at month-end. A daily balance timeline shows how cash position moved day to day rather than just a single end-of-period number, and a profit dashboard rolls income and expenses up into net profit so you can see performance without building your own spreadsheet from exported transactions. Categories carry optional monthly budgets you can pin to the header bar, so spend against a cap is visible while you're working rather than discovered in a report later. Because this is the same ledger invoicing, POS, and purchasing post into, income and expenses recorded elsewhere in Commerce show up here automatically, and every transaction keeps a field-level history of what changed and who changed it.

No, books and invoicing work as a standalone starting point — income, expenses, transfers, and contacts — before you turn on inventory or POS.
Can I set spending limits by category?
Yes, optional monthly budgets per category can be pinned to the header bar to track spend against cap as you work.
Does the ledger update automatically when I make a sale or a purchase?
Yes, transactions from invoicing, POS, and purchasing post into the same ledger, so you're not re-entering them into the books separately.
Can I see who changed a transaction?
Yes, field-level transaction history and workspace-wide activity logs track what changed and who made the change.
