Invoices support tax, discount, and round-off on the line items, and export as a PDF you can print or send, so the document a customer receives looks finished rather than a raw export. A quotation follows the same path — send it, the customer accepts it, and it converts into an invoice without re-entering the line items — so quoting and billing share one record instead of living in separate documents. Payment doesn't have to arrive all at once: invoices track partial payments against a due date, so an invoice can show as partially paid rather than forcing an all-or-nothing paid/unpaid status. This also works as a standalone flow — you can invoice and quote customers without ever turning on inventory or POS — which matters for service-style businesses that sell time or a flat project fee rather than tracked stock.
